ME SO SORRY, TIM MINEAR

The news is out that Fox has pulled Drive off the air after only two weeks and four episodes. It's a shame because the show was FUN and DIFFERENT, and network television could certainly use more of both. CNN ran a story from the Hollywood Reporter suggesting that Drive's lead-in had hurt the ratings of 24. I beg to differ on this point. 24 has done a fine job hurting its own ratings this year, and the last couple of episodes have been among the weakest in the show's history. But I digress.

It would have been nice to see a Tim Minear-produced show last at least half a season on Fox. Minear has written some of the finest episodes of television I've seen in the last five years (including Firefly's thesis-worthy "Out of Gas") and produced some of the most creative and entertaining shows on any network. Firefly, Wonderfalls, The Inside, and now Drive: all oddly scheduled and underpromoted into crib death on Fox.

Mr. Minear, for what it's worth, find a new network. And please take Nathan Fillion with you.
