Nevertheless, I believe I've figured out the secret of NBC'S Heroes.
Walk with me...
The mantra introduced by Future Hiro to Peter Petrelli was "Save the Cheerleader. Save the World."
This prompted Peter to search out Claire Bennett in an attempt to save her from arch-nemesis Sylar.
Peter succeeded and Claire lived, creating a bond that seems even stronger since they realized that they were related. Yet, the world still seems in jeopardy.
Peter had an apocalyptic dream in which he exploded, destroying much of New York City (or .07% of the world population). This event, the destruction of New York by the "Exploding Man" has been the finale hinted at for much of the season.
Peter is not the exploding man.
Imagine for a moment that the only truth that we know is that Peter has seen himself explode.
But could it be someone else?
If there were only a character that liked to acquire powers from others. For instance the volatile and sometimes unpredictable nuclear powers of Ted Sprague and maybe the chameleon like abilities of Candice Wilmer. Perhaps that character would want to acquire the healing powers of Claire.
Perhaps they would disguise themselves as a trusted person. Perhaps an uncle.
Maybe, just maybe they would look like Peter.
And maybe Peter's vision is true, that someone who looks like Peter explodes, destroying the city. And maybe Future Hiro's declaration still stands.
Save the Cheerleader. Save the World.
If I were a betting man, I'd assume that the man who explodes is Gabriel Gray, a.k.a.
Sylar.
