According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Transporter himself, Jason Statham is in negotiations to star in Paul W.S. Anderson's Death Race, a remake of the 1975 Roger Corman cult classic, Death Race 2000.
The original film starred David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone and chronicled a dystopian future where the President presided over an ultra-violent road race from New York to Los Angeles, plowing down anything and anybody in their path.
I'm a huge Statham fan, but I can't not be a bit disappointed in the choice of Anderson (Aliens Vs. Predator, Soldier) as the director. A Death Race picture could be a lot of fun, especially if they hype up the violence and hyper-exaggerate everything a la Grand Theft Auto.
Jason, call Luc Besson.
Quickly.
